Book recommendation and review Revolver : Milana Vuković Runjić

Today I'm going to talk about Revolver, a novel written by Milana Vuković Runjić. What kind of novel is this? An interesting one for sure. I'm tempted to call Revolver a parody novel, but that would be to simple.  On one level, this novel functions as a very entertaining light read. It certainly works well that way. Nevertheless, at times there are surprising moments of profoundness, introduced with the fantasy elements.  This novel can be read a sort of parody of crime novels and mobster films but it can also be read as sometimes more. I'm sure that Milana's readers will get what I mean by that.  As a parody, it is often quite funny. In addition, it quite successfully makes fun of many genre stereotypes.

Kakav je ovo roman? Jako zanimljiv, to je sigurno. U iskušenju sam da nazovem ovaj roman parodijom, ali to bi bilo prejednostavno.  Revolver ije i  nije zabavno lagano štivo. Na jednoj razini je i dobro mu ide, ali u njemu ipak ima i iznenađujućih elemenata dubine ko…

Book review and recommendation: Amos Oz, Suddenly In The Depths Of The Forest

I'm a big fan of Amos Oz. Every book of his that I have read so far, I have fallen in love with. While I'm reading his books, I always have a feeling of entering a magical world of his creation. These worlds of his always enchante me, I do wish I could stay in them for longer periods of time. Oz is a great writer, no doubt about that. What I feel that I get by reading his books, however, is something that goes beyond reading a talented author or enjoying in an example of excellent writing. I feel like Oz lets us glance into his soul. A loving, tender and kind soul. I feel like he allows us to roam freely in his heart and soul. I wondered if it had anything to do with the autobiographical elements that are to be found in his writing. Nevertheless, I remembered that not all of his novels had those elements, even if most did. While I was browsing the Hebrew literature department in my local library, I came accoss this title: Suddenly In The Depths Of The Forest. So, when I say th…

The street looks both foreign and familiar.....

The street looks both foreign and familiar while I try to remember when it was that I last walked here. My legs feel tired and there is a voice in my head that screams for another cup of coffee. Wait for a moment, I might have thought and said to myself, if I had a habit of talking to myself like that which I don’t, so I obviously didn’t. If my thoughts verbalize themselves in this way, I usually don’t talk back to them because that would feel too much as a conversation. I just ignored the voice because I knew the coffee will have to wait until I get home. Not because I’m one of those people who are too shy to sit in a café and order an espresso by themselves but because at this moment I don’t feel like it. I walk past the open market, thinking about buying some cabbage for a second but I decide against it because the dish I have in mind takes about four hours to cook and I just don’t have the energy. Everything seems grey now that the sun is hiding in the clouds, but I don’t find the…
